BTC Surpasses PayPal in Terms of USD Transactions Volume

Blockchain research firm Blackdata revealed some very interesting numbers. In a report, the firm claimed that the quarterly total transactions in US dollars on the BTC network surpass those of PayPal for the first time ever.

The data shows that 2021 saw an estimated $489 billion of processed BTC per quarter, while PayPal’s 2021 numbers come to $302 billion, again per quarter. Although impressive, BTC transactions have a steady and firm lead of a whopping 62%.

That said, BTC transactions are still dwarfed by VISA and MasterCard, two industry giants that turn the tables for the entire game. Reports claim that VISA turns around approximately $3.2 trillion, and $1.8 trillion for MasterCard, all in 2021. Moreover, for now, BTC transactions per day are no way near the ones being done by MasterCard (around 366 million per day), and VISA, which has 597 million transactions on a daily basis.

Blockdata senior analyst, however, sees a possible change in the looming future. A scenario in which BTC transactions greatly surpass those of both VISA and MasterCard by 2026.

As of writing this, BTC’s $1.11 trillion market capitalization has surpassed that of MasterCard, VISA, and PayPal put together! Many experts and economists are expecting that BTC usage and number will exceed each of these major payment companies by 2026.
